Julie Ann Hejl is a dedicated educational innovator and visionary who has spent nearly two decades fostering global connectivity through the power of cultural exchange.  As the Founder and Chief Advisor of Exchange Leaders International (ELI), she has established a premier platform for educators to transcend borders, emphasizing her life-long commitment to pedagogical excellence, purpose-driven mentorship, and international collaboration.

Before launching ELI, Julie served in a strategic leadership capacity as a Program Coordinator, managing complex partnerships between J-1 Visa Sponsors, international educators, and accredited K-12 school districts across the United States.

​

Her career is defined by a deep-rooted belief in the "Global Classroom," a concept she championed during her tenure as both an Elementary and Special Education teacher, where she moved beyond traditional instruction to weave a vibrant tapestry of cultural diversity into the American educational landscape.

Julie's academic foundation is a testament to her pursuit of systemic change. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a major in English Teaching, a specialized degree in Special Education, and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Teaching English as a Second Language. Currently a Doctoral Candidate in Administration and Supervision, Julie's research and leadership focus on the intersection of institutional governance and global teacher mobility.

Her academic journey is defined by a commitment to rigorous research and global inquiry. During her graduate studies at New Mexico Highlands University, she was recognized as a university scholar, a distinction that paved the way for her selection as a fellow for the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) summer institute in Glasgow, Scotland. This prestigious appointment enabled her to engage in advanced research across the humanities—spanning history, language, and literature—and significantly deepened her expertise in how cultural preservation and heritage inform modern pedagogical practices.

Leah Oliva is the Chief of Compliance and Program Support at Exchange Leaders International (ELI), where she ensures the regulatory integrity and operational success of all global exchange initiatives. With over 20 years of experience navigating complex professional landscapes, Leah serves as a pillar of excellence in international program management.

Global Expertise: Leah honed her skills at several Fortune 500 companies, specializing in International Human Resources and global operations. Her background includes managing cross-border immigration, legal collaborations, and the logistics of international relocations.

Strategic Leadership: She holds an MBA in Management and International Business from Our Lady of the Lake University. At ELI, she applies this strategic foundation to design compliance frameworks that are both efficient and educator-focused.

Entrepreneurial Spirit: A dynamic leader, Leah also launched her own successful insurance brokerage five years ago, reflecting her expertise in risk management and her drive for continuous growth.

Community Advocacy: Committed to her roots, Leah is a dedicated volunteer in her hometown in South Texas, where she supports local initiatives that empower and uplift the community.

Carmela Martinez serves as he Director of Marketing Management at Exchange Leaders International (ELI). By blending 16 years of pedagogical expertise with strategic outreach, Carmela ensures that ELI's partnerships are built on a foundation of clarity, inclusivity, and professional growth.

Educational Mastery: Carmela's career began in the classroom, where she spent 16 years shaping young minds in New Mexico. She holds a Bachelor's in K-8 Education and a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction, specializing in the effective delivery and absorption of knowledge.

Diverse Expertise: Her approach is informed by a unique portfolio of endorsements, including Technology, TESOL, Bilingual Education, and Visual Arts. This allows her to craft marketing strategies that are both innovative and accessible to a global audience.
