University Studies Program - USP

ELI’s University Studies Program- (USP) will open the door to the top-quality education offered by University of California, Santa Cruz. As a USP student, you will be studying with other UCSC students and the credits that you earn will be transferable to other U.S. universities. To join this program, students need an advanced-level English proficiency, TOEFL 550 paper/80 iBT. You will need to send an official TOEFL score report with your application. Acceptance into specific courses is based on available space and the instructor’s approval.

This program is offered during the academic year (fall, winter and spring quarters). Our USP students can take up to 15 credit hours per quarter.

Students enrolled in ELI’s USP often choose to refresh or expand their English skills by enrolling in a 5- or 10-week intensive English session before starting the University Studies Program at UCSC. Please click here for our Intensive English schedule and fees.

Tuition and fees

• Application fee: $125 (Application fee is non-refundable)
• Base Tuition: $2950 (Includes library and registration fees)
• Course fees: $50 per unit-undergraduate, $100 per unit-graduate
• Student Services fee: $545 (Includes health insurance, bus pass, Student I.D. card, recreation card, orientation, and academic advising)

UCSC e-mail account- required for some courses $144 per quarter or $192 per year.

Housing costs are extra and will be based on your choice of housing options, which include sharing a double room in the UTC dormitory or staying with a friendly, local host family.

Refund Policy

Within two weeks from the start of USP orientation and prior to submitting course instructor approval forms, students will receive a full refund of program tuition and student services fees less $300.  After the course instructor approval forms have been submitted or two weeks after the start of the quarter, no refund will be issued.  Refunds are made by UCSC, by check, in U.S. dollars and must be issued to the person or institution who made the orginal USP fee payment.
