UCSC
In
its first
40 years, UCSC has established a reputation for excellence through
the national
distinction of its people and programs.
UC Santa Cruz is one of ten campuses within
the University of California system, and the only campus closely
linked to Silicon Valley. Opened in 1965, UCSC has been a pioneer
in offering "student centered" education. The campus offers
exceptionally innovative programs in:
- Astronomy and Astrophysics
- Human Genome Research
- International Studies
- Computer Engineering
- Linguistics
- Sustainable Agriculture
- English Literature and Drama
- Music
- Marine Biology
- Political Science
UC
Santa Cruz is arguably the most beautiful campus in the world.
Its physical setting is a perfect blend of award-winning architecture
and a natural environment of redwood forests and open meadows. Located
120 kilometers south of San Francisco and 44 kilometers south of
San Jose, the UC Santa Cruz campus commands breathtaking views of
the Monterey Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
UCSC is unlike other UC or U.S. campuses. Designed after Oxford
and Cambridge Colleges in England, the campus comprises 10 colleges
with two more currently in the development stages. It has been ranked
13th in the United States for its commitment to undergraduate teaching.
