2. What about application deadlines?
We don’t have
any! However, due to the amount of time that it takes to
apply for the student visa, schedule your visa interview,
prepare for your trip and purchase your plane tickets,
we encourage you to apply two months before the start of
your session. We will send your admission packet and I-20
form within two days after receipt of your application
and fee payment.
3. Can I have my admission packet sent via express mail?
Yes! For an additional fee, we will
be happy to mail your packet so that you receive it within
one week.
4. Why do I need to provide a financial statement?
The
U.S. Department of Homeland Security requires that each
student show a certification of adequate financial support
for his or her studies in the U.S. International students
need to provide documentation to verify that they have
enough funds to study in the U.S. for the amount of time
they stated on their ELI application form.
5. What amount of funds does my financial statement need
to show in order for me to be admitted to ELI?
Your bank
statement must show at least $6500 for an 8- or 10- week
session and $3500 for a 4- or 5-week session.
6. Can you help me find housing in Santa Cruz?
Yes! We
will arrange dormitory or homestay accommodation for
you if you include a $235 housing placement fee and the
housing application form with your ELI application form.
Please note that this fee is not refundable if you change
your mind about studying in the ELI program.
7. Is it possible to live in a dormitory with Americans?
Yes! The modern and convenient University
Town Center dormitory, allows you to room with an American
student and share your culture, practice your English and
make a friend for life. If you prefer to live with a family,
we will be happy to place you into a homestay where you
will share a house with an American family.
8. If I have friends or relatives in Santa Cruz, is it
possible to live with them while I study at ELI?
Of course!
Please just note that on your application.
9. When are my fees due?
The
application fee is due at the time you submit your application
to ELI. You need to pay the housing placement fee before
ELI can reserve a room for you, whether you select homestay
or the UTC dormitory for your housing preference. All
other fees are due at orientation on the first day of
class and will need to be paid in full, partial payments
cannot be accepted. We accept credit cards, cash, traveler’s
checks, and personal checks. If using a credit card,
please, make sure that the daily limit will allow for
entire payment of fees due.
10. How old must I be to attend
ELI?
You should be at least 16 years
old. Students under the age of 18 must have a signed parental
release form which can be downloaded from our website [link
to Parental release form]. Our students range in age from
